Corrections to the Technical Notes for the 2007 National Home and Hospice Care Survey (NHHCS), Medication Public-Use File: Changes to Selected Category IDs in the Multum Classification Directory

Please note that the Technical Notes for the 2007 NHHCS Medication Public-use File were revised on February 2, 2011. 

We advise data users who have already downloaded the Technical Notes for the 2007 NHHCS Medication Public-use File from our NHHCS website to download the revised version that is now available on our website.  Data users should revisit any analyses that involve the category IDs/therapeutic classes mentioned below before reporting or publishing any 2007 NHHCS medication data.

We recently identified errors with selected category IDs (and their therapeutic classes) in the Multum Classification Directory in Appendix II of the Technical Notes. We found incorrect code assignments that affected the following category IDs:

Four sex hormone categories were not labeled previously and their correct labels should be noted: 
* CAT ID 186 is sex hormone combinations; 
* CAT ID 187 is miscellaneous sex hormones;
* CAT ID 279 is gonadotropin releasing hormones; and 
* CAT ID 288 is 5-alpha reductase inhibitors; 

CAT ID 251 was previously mislabeled as antidepressants and should be labeled antipsychotics; and

CAT ID 112 was previously mislabeled as radiopharmaceuticals in some cases and should be labeled as radiocontrast agents. 

We made the necessary corrections and posted the revised Technical Notes file on the NHHCS website.
