Health, United States, 1996-97 Spreadsheet Files These files are the 150 detailed tables from Health, United States, 1996-97. These tables are in spreadsheet format with names corresponding to the Health, United States, 1996-97 detailed table numbers (e.g., TABLE001.WK1, TABLE002.WK1, ... ,TABLE150.WK1). Some of the detailed table spreadsheets have additional trend data not shown in the printed tables. Another file, INDEX.WK1, contains an electronic version of the printed index. Menu choices will allow the user to browse or search the index, and retrieve specific tables. Instructions for using the electronic index are provided below. Instructions for Using the Electronic Index Retrieve the file INDEX.WK1. The screen shows a general description of the Electronic Index. At the top of the screen in the left corner is a menu. Moving the cursor with the arrow keys to highlight B, S, R, or Q, presents a description of each menu item. B Browse the Index or general category list Selecting B brings another menu to the screen presenting two choices: 1 Browse the Index Browsing the Index with table numbers allows you to page or scroll through the complete Index. Use Alt-A to return to the main menu. 2 Browse the general categories The general categories were extracted from the Index and comprise a separate list. Browse the general categories by paging down, each alphabetical letter's list on one screen. Use Alt-A to return to the main menu. S Search the Index by alphabetical letter and highlight Selecting S allows you to skip directly to a category in the Index without scrolling. You will be prompted for an alphabetical letter; type it in and press Enter. You will be shown the general categories screen for that letter and will be asked to highlight the category you would like to see in detail. Highlight and press Enter. You will see the beginning of the category in the Index. You are free at this point to scroll through the category, as in the Browse mode. Use Alt-A to return to the main menu. R Retrieve a table Selecting R allows you to retrieve a table. You will be prompted for the table number. Type in the number and press Enter. The table will be retrieved. To Browse or Search the Index again, or to Retrieve another table, retrieve the Electronic Index as before. Q Quit the file Selecting Q erases the Index from the screen. As an alternative to using the menu, you may use a "hot-key" to perform a menu function. You may use Alt-B to Browse the Index or general categories, Alt-S to Search the Index with table numbers, or Alt-R to retrieve a table. These "hot-keys" function exactly as the menu choices do.
