Instruction Manual Part 2a Instructions for Classifying the Underlying Cause of Death The basic purpose of this manual is to set forth detailed concepts and instructions for using the ICD-9 for classifying causes of death in the United States. The manual should be used in conjunction with Volumes 1 and 2. This manual is also intended as a tool for users of mortality medical data in proper data interpretation and analysis.
