Instruction Manual Part 20 ICD-10 Cause-of-Death Querying 1999 and 2006 versions The 1999 Instruction manual is available in three forms: a Wordperfect file (zipped or unzipped) and ASCII on the ftp server or in pdf format on the htm page. The 2006 version is available in two forms: WORD on the ftp server and pdf. This manual presents principles and procedures for cause-of-death querying. Cause-of-death querying is a process by which the State health department contacts the medical certifier who completed the cause-of-death statement and asks for clarification or further information so that the resulting mortality statistics may be as complete and accurate as possible. The 1999 Instruction Manual is comprised of a single Wordperfect file that has been compressed into the file 20MANUAL.ZIP (about 162 KB). Uncompressed, the Wordperfect 7.0 file (20MANUAL.WPD) is about 1.1MB in size. The ASCII file, 20MANUAL.TXT, is 260 KB in size. The 2006 WORD version (Instruction Manual revise 2) is 3.8MB in size. Questions and comments regarding the format and content of these files should be addressed to Mortality Statistics Branch, Room 7318, 3311 Toledo Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782.
