Instruction Manual Part 11 Computer Edits for Mortality Data, Including Separate Section for Fetal Deaths, Effective 2001 The Instruction manual is available in three forms: a Wordperfect file (zipped or unzipped), ASCII, and pdf format. This manual presents a comprehensive description of the mainframe computer edits used by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) in processing mortality data beginning with data year 2001. The edits include both medical edits for the Tenth Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and demographic edits. Edits for two different applications (final mortality file and preliminary file) are discussed. Beginning with the 2001 manual, a separate section provides instructions for fetal deaths. The Instruction Manual is comprised of a single Wordperfect file that has been compressed into the file 11MANUAL.ZIP (about 102 KB). Uncompressed, the Wordperfect 7.0 file (2001PT11FINL_B.WPD) is about 628 KB in size. The ASCII file, 11MANUAL.TXT, is 285 KB in size. Questions and comments regarding the format and content of these files should be addressed to Mortality Statistics Branch, Room 820, 6525 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782.
